Brig Gen B. Chance "Salty" Saltzman

Director, Current Operations Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, HQAF

Brigadier General B. Chance “Salty” Saltzman serves as the Director of Current Operations, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Headquarters U.S Air Force, Washington, D.C. The directorate, encompassing five divisions, the Air Force Operations Group and the Air Force Flight Standards Agency, is responsible for policy, guidance, and oversight of Air Force current operations in air, space and cyberspace. The Directorate provides time-sensitive situational awareness and analysis to Air Force senior leaders and links worldwide operations with core Air Force processes to enable global vigilance, reach and power.

General Saltzman is a graduate of Boston University and was commissioned in 1991. He has operational experience with missile and space systems, as a Minuteman III launch officer, and as a satellite operator for the National Reconnaissance Office. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, General Saltzman has also served as an instructor at the school at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. After graduating from the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, General Saltzman was assigned to the Joint Space Operations Center where he was Chief of Combat Plans and later Chief of Combat Operations. Following his National Security Fellowship at Harvard, he served as the Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy Division at Headquarters Air Force. 

General Saltzman has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels including the 614th Space Operations Squadron and the 1st Space Control Squadron at Vandenberg AFB, California, the 460th Operations Group at Buckley AFB, Colorado and the Commander, Aerospace Data Facility-Colorado, Aurora, Colorado.
